timObviously the city of Philadelphia is giddy about the upside of Carson Wentz. Never before have I looked a rookie quarterback after two games and thought to myself: “this guy is special”. Wentz is in a dream situation where his coaches are former NFL quarterbacks, and exactly situations to place the rookie in. As for Wentz himself, I’ve seen him on numerous occasions stand in the pocket and deliver the ball down field with a defender bearing down, knowing he was about to get hit hard. He got up like a man. He’s never looked unsure of himself, I have to ask “am I watching a rookie?”.

Pittsburgh comes to town this week. The Steelers come into town, a Super Bowl contender for sure, this will be a test for young Carson. From the Eagles perspective, the positive is that the game is at home and Pittsburgh is coming off of an emotionally invested game against their hater rivals in Cincinnati. That was a big win for the black and gold, perhaps a bit of a letdown is in store?

I can’t leave without addressing Dallas and this kid Dak Prescott. I think Tony Romo may have lost his job. This kid can play and like Wentz, he’s poised. Reminiscent of a young Donovan McNabb. The Cowboys have got something growing in Dallas. Paired with rookie Ezekiel Elliot and Dez Bryant, not to mention the best offensive line in all of football. The Cowboys are building and arsenal that will not only contend this season, but for years to come. With Wentz and Prescott coming in the same draft, we could be looking at two potential franchise quarterbacks and the return of a heated rivalry.

It’s a great time to watch football. Cam Newton made his presence felt last week with four touchdown passes in a route over San Francisco. I think that with the 6’5″ wide recover Kelvin Benjamin returned (he missed all of last season with an injury), Cam doesn’t have to create offense on his own, he won’t have to run as much. Benjamin has been his favorite receiver. Forget what you heard, carolina is not finished. The Panthers have enough to dominate the NFC and return to the Bowl. The New England Patriots have some going on. Shuffle the quarterback deck, lose a four time Super Bowl winner…just plug in another guy and nothing changes. Anyway, that’s all folks!

subukaiCarson is definitely a bright light in some dark days of QB doldrums in Philly. I second your comment about his confidence in the pocket. I would like to see him be a little more careful – he’s not as big as Ben and would hate to see him making those run attempts against harder hitting defenses.

dodattI like him. I think he looks every bit a product of QB camps and early preparatory systems on all levels. More guys are coming out pro ready and have been for quite some time. I’m more excited about the extremely young talent around him that has a chance to gel together in Green-Beckham, Matthews and Huff. Young QB’s no longer need a running game like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. Cam and Luck changed the expectations of rookie QB’s both with 400 yard debuts. More importantly me and John talked about the lack of offensive understanding that’s going on around the league and Wentz and Dak are in THEE 2 most historical offensive systems. Now look at Sam Bradford teamed up with Norv Turner and now he can freely throw the most difficult pass route combo(bang 8). This topic would make for a great 17weeks article or show.

badsuiteOn Carson Wentz, I am taking a big sigh of relief in that we have a QB that seems to be able to read a defense and audible confidently. I watched both games and he was able to change the play run-wise to go away from the run blitz time and time again. On his size, I think he is almost identical to Big Ben, maybe just a few pounds lighter but just as tall and in that shows confidence in the pocket too. I will be interested to see how he fairs against a much better defense in the Steelers (at least up front) in there aggressive style and quick switches into zone. The Browns & Bears both stink which were perfect warm up games for what is about to happen. Bring on the Steelers…EAGLES!!!
